Embrace the Weather

With so much snow so far this winter we are really getting tired of hearing folks complain.  Luckily Kathy and I both love to be outdoors regardless of the weather.  Last weekend we decided it was not cold and snowy enough in Maine so we headed to Vermont to do some skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking.  We spent three nights at the Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville, VT.  The snow for skiing and snowshoeing was excellent but not so good for fat biking.  What is fat biking?  It is a regular mountain bike with really fat tires that make it good for riding in the snow and sand.  You can rent these bikes from the Village Sport Shop in Lyndonville.

We skied at Burke Mountain Saturday morning.  In the afternoon we stopped by the Nordic center to see if the bike trails had setup for riding.  They had not so we volunteered to do some trail packing for them with our snow shoes.  We packed out over 4 miles of trails including breaking trail on East Branch down by the river.

Shamus loves the snow!

On Sunday we headed back out to do some more trail packing but on the North end of Darling hill this time.  We did about 3 miles in the Pastore Point area.  It was sunny and cold but extremely beautiful.  In the afternoon we went up to the mid Burke lodge and the Bear's Den bar to see some old friends and have some drinks.  That evening we visited the Clarner family at their home.  They are the owners of the Burke Bike Barn.  On Monday we returned to the boat to clean up after the weekend snow.
